As you can tell by my blog's name, I'm living in New England--New Hampshire, to be exact. I was born and raised here, lucky me! I think it's the most beautiful spot in the world, offering cities, country roads, mountains and beaches. Small states equal quick trips to get to any of these destinations! Again, lucky. I live with my husband and four kids, and a zoo full of pets. I happen to live in one of the bigger cities in NH, and I've only been up close and personal with farm animals on a few occasions, believe it or not. I think some may envision most New Englanders living on big farms with pastures and white fences. Blame it on the post cards and calendars, I guess. Not that I don't love farms, I do! I just don't really see myself mucking out stalls and chasing after chickens. Bless those who do, though!

I read cookbooks like novels. I really do! Cover to cover. The ones that grab my attention the most, are when the chef/author gives a personal touch to the recipes. I want to know who or what inspired the dish, where they first had it, what kind of ingredients they switch in and out of the recipe--you know, those kinds of things. Photos are pretty and shiny, too, but I understand how expensive that can be, so if I truly love the book, I can let that slide.

I started this blog back in February of 2008 because I begged my husband to let me buy a new Nikon D40. We struck a deal and I got the camera. What was the deal? I'll never tell, but I have to say, that boy is easy to crack!

I immediately fell in love with my Nikon on the day it arrived, all shiny and new and wrapped in a soft, fuzzy blanket and sweet little hat...wait--that was my kids! Sorry. My camera was almost like an alien, come to think of it. I was a point and shoot girl up until then, so all of the settings and the thick manual made me a little nervous. Thank goodness it can't talk, because that camera would have been laughing at me every single day! (Who knows? It may still do that!) I still don't feel like I know it inside and out, but we have a pretty good working relationship. I decided I needed to do more with it than just take action shots of the kids and dogs. Those are great, too, of course, but ND40 needed more out of life. (He seemed to say.)

That was just about the time I started getting hooked on food blogs. I had this shiny new camera, I liked food, I cooked and baked a just seemed like a natural progression. So here I am, just over five years later, and I have a good sized collection of recipes and some decent photos to go along with them.

What can you expect to see here? A pretty varied selection, really. Sinful desserts, fun snacks, and recipes for the meat eaters as well as the vegans and vegetarians out there. My husband and I decided to cut most of the meat out of our diets, before deciding to go completely vegan. That explains the vegan and raw recipes here. We were vegan for a year, and then settled into being Flexitarian. That means we eat vegetarian (sometimes vegan) for most of the week, and have some kind of meat about once a week. So there's something for everyone on my blog! And yes, good old ND40 is still going strong.

I've also recently started making jewelry. I have an Etsy shop called Helle's Bells. I'm always adding new designs because I'm having so much fun doing it. If you have any questions on that, feel free to contact me.
